SCC Hiring More 'Fat Cats'

Last week Surrey County Council announced cuts in the number of jobs of less than 1% per annum. We have commented on this supposed cut elsewhere but do want to comment on the number and scale of jobs still on offer in SCC as per the Job Vacancies page of SCC's web site.

- There is the Strategic Directors Job for a salary of between £130,000 and £150,000 which by the time all the perks are costed adds up to a package of over £200,000.
- Then there is a Programme Managers Job with a salary of £70,000 plus, Note the lack of upper limit.
- There are also other jobs where the salary is £50,000 to £70,000.
- Add to these the 15 other jobs which pay between £30,000 and £50,000
- And finally the 38 various jobs, some part time, where salary is up the £30,000

This shows that SCC is playing with words when it says it is 'cutting'. It is in fact hiring at very high inflation busting salaries and has been dishing out large pay rises to many staff. In the year 2009/10 SCC gave pay rises equivalent to more than 10% to more than 900 staff. This added £5,600,000 to the salary bill.

Note: All these jobs will get the Civil Servant gold plated pension scheme which is worth 30% than anyone working in the real commercial world gets. They are advertised in SCC's own web site.
